About the Artist - Emily McIntosh
Artist, Emily McIntosh, uses a unique painting technique to create contemporary equine art.
“Through simple lines and use of white space, I paint horses playing at liberty as well as performing haute ecole. My knowledge of equine biomechanics and dressage allows me to recreate horses accurately in terms of conformation and movement; I then give the paint liberty to fall where it will by pouring paint above the canvas. The freedom I allow the paint, in-turn allows the horses to have (the illusion of) freedom of movement."
Born in Clarksville, TN, Emily McIntosh is an Art Instruction School graduate, received a B.S. in Marketing from Austin Peay State University, and studied dressage in depth with trainers such as Ed Rothkranz (1980 Canadian Olympian) and J.T Burnley (international horse trainer). She also traveled to Portugal for six months as working student for Jorge Sousa and Jeannette Jenny (both accomplished international riders). She currently trains and instructs at Serendipity Stables, starting both horses and riders and bringing them up the levels of dressage; as well as painting through Dressage Impressions.
